Wooden Shelf

In order to improve on my skills …I have to practice, practice, practice. I don’t know up to when I can keep this up but I will try to do as much as I can.

It was a bit gloomy outside and I have a ZOOM Zumba class at 1 so I decided to just stay home. This is a wooden shelf in the family room with different miniature random stuff. Some small vases from my niece…picture box…vases from the market…and a few memorabilia from the Philippines.

In my Garden

First of all, why am I sketching?

I first got interested in this type of art when I was doing my travels. I wanted to do it but I didn’t know where to start.

I saw this blog from Liz Steel and got more interested in this style.

Then pandemic came and travelling is put to a standstill. But I was lucky enough to see this course in U3A (yes, yes I am a senior 😂 U3A is a University of the Third Age for people who are retired or semi- retired) This class is headed by Kathleen Newman. So now I am doing this and hopefully by the next time that the borders are open I can record my travels in a sketching journal aside from capturing it in photos.

Here is my first try on sketching things I found in my garden. Not well organised but it will do for now….I will keep on trying until I find my own style.

Trying it Out…

Just yesterday, I enrolled in an Urban Sketching class.

So, what is Urban Sketching USk

In short, it is the practice of drawing what is around you, for instance, in your sketchbook. It does not necessarily imply that you draw cities, but rather it consists of capturing your personal vision of your immediate world, and the places you travel to.

It is a narrative of everyday life: that cup of coffee that you drink in the morning, the streets that you walk by during the day, the cars that you observed, the clothes that you wore, and so on. – domestika.org

Here is my first drawing based on a photo that was given for all of us to interpret.

We were told to do continuing line with pen and watercolour. My hands were a bit unsteady and I need a lot more practice. But here goes…if you want, you can join me on my journey.
